National Holiday Events
Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Carnival are the popular, traditional festivals throughout Brazil. In Santa Catarina, these dates are also celebrated by thousands of Brazilian and foreign tourists who are vacationing in the state during the summer. Concerts, art shows, parades and other special attractions are part of the schedule of events that shake up Santa Catarina’s busy season.

Festas de Verão (Summer Festivals)
The réveillon (New Years Eve) celebration marks the beginning of the festivals, which includes shows and recreational and sporting events, held on the beaches throughout the summer. The calendar comes to a close with one of the most exciting Carnival celebrations in the southernmost region of the state, with an emphasis on the samba school parades that travel down Avenida Getúlio Vargas.

Costa Verde e Mar

Barra Sul, Pontal Norte, Praça Tamandaré, the Avenida Central boardwalk and the main avenues in the city are illuminated and decorate at Christmas.

New Year’s Eve
Seaside festival, with shows, DJ and traditional firework display.
There are free shows on the stages mounted on the seaside over four nights.
Music, public dances, marches by the samba schools and carnival blocks animate the five day festival, especially the Navegay block, which performs on Monday during Carnival. The blocks leave Avenida João Sacavem, in Center, and follow the beaches.
November 20 thru January 6 there are presentations of theater, music and dance, besides handicraft fairs and parades with the presence of Father Christmas at several points of the city.
On the eve of Holy Friday, the followers go up the Morro da Cruz, passing by the 14 phases which represent the Way of the Cross. On Hallelujah Saturday and Easter Sunday processions take place in the Center and at the Santuário Santa Paulina.
Osterfest (Easter Festival)
The celebration of Easter according to German traditions. Folkloric presentations, typical gastronomy and the Ostermarkt (Easter Fair). It occurs on weekends preceding the Christian commemoration.
Besides the parades of the samba schools, there are small samba parade groups in several districts and also in the Center, highlighting the Enterro da Tristeza (End of Sadness), the Bloco dos Sujos (Dirty Group) and the Pop Gay competition.

New Year’s Eve
The Virada Show at Vila Beach is promoted by Imbituba City Hall. Another beach that stands out is Rosa Beach. The sands fill up with visitors who want to enjoy the festivals and watch the fireworks show put on by the local pousadas. On the afternoon of December 31, automobile traffic to the south of south of Rosa is prohibited.
The popular festival has almost a century of tradition in the city. The schedule includes parades of samba schools, street blocks, improvised blocks, and dances in the clubs of the city. A highlight is the Pracinha Block, which brings together more than 100,000 revelers, and the Carnival at Mar Grosso Beach.
