Avenida Beira-Mar Norte
One of the main avenues and leisure areas of Florianópolis, located in the Center, next to Baía Norte (North Bay). Besides the residential buildings, it has stores, restaurants, bars, banks, shopping centers, a cycleway and a sidewalk much used by people living in the city.

The most visited are those of Morro da Cruz (Center), Morro das Pedras (south of the Island), Ingleses (north of the Island), Morro das Sete Voltas (east of the Island) and Morro da Praia Mole (east of the Island).

Steam engine trip
It starts at the station located in Subida community, crosses the Túnel do Baú (Chest Tunnel) and the viaduct with two arches and then stops for the passengers to admire the rapids of the Rio Itajaí-Açu and the turbines of the Salto Pilão Plant.


Avenida Beira-Rio
An avenue of 800 m which goes along the Rio Itajaí-Açu (Itajaí-Açu River), from the Teatro Carlos Gomes (Carlos Gomes Theater) to the City Hall, going past several touristic points in the city, as the viewpoint next to the Ponte Aldo Pereira de Andrade (Ponte de Ferro).

Valley Mill
One of the most traditional post cards of the city, it is today a refined touristic complex with an events house, restaurant, beer bar, deckbar and souvenir store.

Astronomical Observatory Tadeu Cristóvam Mikowski
The highlight is the large telescope, capable of augmenting the scope of vision by up to 2 thousand times. Monday thru Friday, from 8am to 12pm and from 1:30pm to 5pm, only for school visits. Hunting and Shooting Club Araújo Brusque

Pomerode Zoo
Founded in 1932, it is the first zoological garden of Santa Catarina and the third oldest in Brazil. It houses 1,300 animals of 210 species, 19 of which are in danger of extinction. Day trips in the midst of the natural scenery of the region, learning about the local customs and history, and passing by houses of handicraft, restaurants of typical food and colonial breakfast.

Timber Frame Route
it can be done by car or bicycle, observing the dozens of timber frame style buildings which exist in the locality of Testo Alto (listed by Unesco as Cultural Heritage. The route also foresees stops in ateliers of artists and craftspeople, in the Pousada da Estufa (Greenhouse Hostel) (former tobacco greenhouse), in the Casa de Taipa (Stucco House) and in the Casa Voigt/Wachholz (Voigt/Wachholz House), which started to be built in 1867 – the oldest timber frame in the town. 33 m monument with light cannon that shoots out a ray of light over the city. Located at Morro da Cruz, at an altitude of 154 m, with a beautiful view of Balneário Camboriú. There is also a restaurant, diner, souvenir store and square at the location, where live shows take place during the summer season (from 7 pm). Tram ride

Trams run along the Atlântica and Brasil avenues, where passengers can get off at any point on their itinerary. Another option is to take the Linha 114, along the gardens that go from the Praia dos Amores to the Praia do Estaleirinho.

Eco 360º Viewpoint
Offers a beautiful view of Zimbros, Canto Grande, Mariscal, Morro do Macaco and Ilha de Santa Catarina (Florianópolis). Access via a light trail of around 15 minutes. At the bottom of the viewpoint there is a museum with examples of local fauna and shipwrecked objects. The viewpoint is also sought after for adventure sports (see Ecotourism). Considered one of the best in the country, the Port of Itajaí allows large vessels to dock, including cruise ships (the only bonded terminal for embarkation and disembarkation of passengers in the South of the country). The arrival of transatlantic liners can be watched from the piers or the riverbank. Tourists disembarking at the Tourist Pier are usually received with fireworks, music shows and folkloric groups. Bocaina do Sul

Fábrica de Papel Itajaí (Itajaí Paper Factory)
Shut down more than 30 years ago, it has been transformed into a monument for tourists with its ruins and its abandoned equipment. The surrounding landscape is breathtaking. Next to the factory there is a waterfall with a 140 m drop. Located in Pinheiro Marcado, it can be accessed by a dirt road that is 7 km long.

Usina de Energia Eólica (Wind Power Plant)
The first wind power station in Santa Catarina (produced by wind power), grabs the attention due to its enormous three-propeller windmills that are 50 m high. Located on SC-438, next to the Serra do Rio do Rastro Observatory.

Represa de Guaramirim (Guaramirim Dam)
The waters of this dam of the Rio Itapocu (Itapocu River), built in 1969, are still used for irrigating the rice fields. The place is appropriate for water sports as canoeing. There is a restaurant in the place.

Campo Novos Hydroelectric Power Plant
Made up of a total area of 34.6 km2, reaching four towns: Campos Novos, Celso Ramos, Anita Garibaldi and Abdon Batista.

Located in front of the Parish Church (Center), it has a playground, tables for checkers and chess, an half shell with a music room and a sound and light water fountain.

Uruguay River Bridge
On the border between Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, it has a beautiful panoramic view.


Itá Hydroelectric Power Plant
The lake formed on the Rio Uruguai (Uruguai River) reaches eleven municipalities (seven in Santa Catarina). In Itá, one of the attractions is the botanical garden. Visits are guided and must be scheduled beforehand. Open Tuesday through Saturday, 8am to 12pm and 1:30pm to 5:30pm.

Steam Locomotive
The steam locomotive tour leaves from the Piratuba train station, and heads toward Marcelino Ramos (RS). The trip, which is 4 hours long (round trip), travels over the Rio Uruguai (Uruguai River) bridge and includes visits to hot springs. Operates on the weekends, with prior reservations.

Machadinho Hydroelectric Power Plant
Built on the Rio Pelotas (Pelotas River), on the border of Rio Grande do Sul, the dam also functions as a bridge, used as a crossing between the two states. The site is open to visitation.

Porto União

Train station
Surrounded by other buildings from the start of the XX century, it houses a steam locomotive that takes trips throughout the surrounding areas. The train track is the border between Porto União and União da Vitória (PR), which was already integrated into the town before the Contestado War. Open daily, 8:30am to 11:30am and 1:30pm to 5:30pm.

Domo de Vargeão
A crater of 12 km in diameter created by the fall of a meteorite 100 million years ago. It can be seen from the viewpoint known as the Acesso do Meio (Access to the Environment). According to recent studies, the clay found in the place can have therapeutic and esthetic applications.


Domingos Forlin Astronomical Observatory
Considered a benchmark in Brazil, it allows for observation of planets and stars with long-range telescopes. Groups can schedule lectures. Open Monday through Friday, 8am to 11am and 1pm to 4:30pm; Tuesday through Sunday, 6:30pm to 10:30pm.

Encantos do Sul


Carriage tours
There are routes through the surroundings of the valley, going to the Center and out through the neighborhood of Bela Vista, or only circulating along the commerce of the main avenue. The conductor of the tours can be found on Av. Pedro Zapelini, Termas.


Steam locomotive tour
In the summer, the route passes through Jaguaruna and Imbituba. In winter, it visits Urussanga and Sideópolis. In both cases, the locomotive takes the visitor through verdant rice fields, old stations, and small settlements, on tours that always take place on the last Sunday of the month. Outside of these dates, companies and closed groups can schedule exclusive tours. Departures from the Railroad Museum.


Old railroad station
A steam locomotive tour (with departure from Tubarão) engages the railroad terminal once a month. The location is home to the Progoethe Association (of wine producers of the region) and the Tourist Information Center (Monday to Friday, 8AM to 5:30PM; Saturday and Sunday, 9AM to 12PM).

Caminhos da Fronteira


To have a panoramic view of the town and Rio Uruguai the best point is in the outside area of the AABB (Banco do Brasil Athletic Association), in the Line of Baú. There is another viewpoint following the ITG-070, in the direction of the Line Becker (at 500 m from the leisure area of the Barra do Macaco), as well as in the district Jardim Bela Vista.

That of the Immigrant deserves mention as it houses the municipal bus station (a building in German style), besides the Monumento ao Imigrante (Monument to the Immigrant) and an old and beautiful fig tree. Whereas the Praça das Bandeiras (Flag Square), in the town center, is very leafy and has a playground. The Praça dos Pioneiros (Pioneers’ Square), at the entrance of Itapiranga, is also worth visiting.
