Frei Rogério

The most authentic Japanese colony of the southern region of Brazil is in Frei Rogério, more precisely in the Núcleo Celso Ramos community. It is worth visiting the location and taking in the beauty of the cherry tree species brought from Japan to the Parque Sakura Matsuri (Sakura Matsuri Park). Another highlight of the town is the Parque Sino da Paz (Sino da Paz Park). The eastern traditions can also be experienced during the community’s main festivals.

Parks

Sakura Matsuri Park
Stands out for the species of trees brought from Japan, such as the cashew trees and the cherry trees. The beauty and the color of the leaves grabs visitors’ attention, especially when the cherry trees are in bloom (September), when the gardens are filled with reddish and white tones.
SC-451, 4 km from the Parque Sino da Paz.

Sino da Paz Park
Has a monument in the shape of a tsuru (a bird that is common in Japan) and a bell from the Daionji temple, donated in 1998 from the Province of Nagasaki. Every year, between August 6th and 9th, the dates that the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the bell is used in a ceremony in memory of the victims. Some survivors of the catastrophe live in the community.
