Itapiranga

The influence of the German colonizers makes Itapiranga a special attraction in the region of the Caminhos da Fronteira. The town was the first in the state to organize the Oktoberfest, with typical dances and gastronomy, competitions of draft beer drinking in meters, target shooting and parade of floats. The buildings in German style also draw one ‘s attention, as do the flowery gardens of the houses. Another attraction is the Museu Comunitário Almiro Theobaldo Müller (Almiro Theobaldo Müller Community Museum). Its collection includes the archeological discoveries which prove the presence of prehistoric civilizations in the region. The Igreja Matriz São Pedro Canísio (Parish Church Saint Peter Canísio) also stands out, as do the ferryboat trips on the Rio Uruguai (Uruguay River) and the viewpoints.

Squares
That of the Immigrant deserves mention as it houses the municipal bus station (a building in German style), besides the Monumento ao Imigrante (Monument to the Immigrant) and an old and beautiful fig tree. Whereas the Praça das Bandeiras (Flag Square), in the town center, is very leafy and has a playground. The Praça dos Pioneiros (Pioneers’ Square), at the entrance of Itapiranga, is also worth visiting.
