São Joaquim

Snow, apples and wine. With these three ingredients, São Joaquim is becoming one of the most prestigious places to visit in Santa Catarina. The town, which has around 25 thousand inhabitants, is currently the main destination for eager tourists to enjoy the snow on Brazilian soil. It snows almost every winter in São Joaquim, which is considered the coldest city in Brazil. The farm hotels, inns and family houses that have been converted into bed and breakfasts generally fill up during apple harvest season (from March to May). Apples are the region’s principal agricultural product. More recently, with the arrival of renowned wineries, São Joaquim has also become a popular stop for wine tourists. Some of its wines have won national and international awards.
