São Martinho

Colonized by German immigrants from Westfalia, São Martinho carefully preserves its origins in timber-framed houses, carefully tended gardens, typical cuisine, and municipal festivals, The region is one of rare beauty, with waterfalls and lots of greenery. One of the most enchanting places is Vargem do Cedro, where the tourist can find a number of well-kept houses, as well as stores with colonial handicraft products, the beautiful São Sebastião Church, a historical museum, and the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Grotto. In the Center, the Culture House holds the Museum of the Colonizer, with pieces that tell the story of the colonization of the town. Among the principal natural attractions of São Martinho, the highlights are the Salto do Rio Capivara, Cascata Recanto das Pedras, and Salto de Cima waterfalls and the Salto das Águas Ranch, which has waterfalls, bromeliad trails, recreation areas, a pousada, and a restaurant.

Festivals of the communities
Among the various festivals celebrated in all the rural communities of São martinho, highlights are the Duck Festival (in May, in Rio São João), the Festival of Sagrado Coração de Jesus and Homestyle Cookie Festival (in June, in Rio Gabiroba), and the Colonist Festival (in July, in Vargem do Cedro).

Discover the rural community of Vargem do Cedro and other places of great natural beauty, where you can practice various outdoor activities.

Vargem do Cedro
Rural community located in a valley full of waterfalls. The set of houses with flowery gardens are enchanting, as is the beautiful Church of São Sebastião. Beside it is the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Grotto, which has a historical museum with objects and utensils of the colonizers. Other attractions of the community include the artisanal and colonial products. Access by dirt road. The majority of the establishments are open only on the weekends.

Rio Fortuna


The influence of the German immigrants is striking in Rio Fortuna and can be appreciated at events such as the Festival of São Marcos (April) and Expofortuna (in August of even-numbered years), where the agricultural and livestock production, cuisine, and dress of the colonizer are very well represented. Other attractions are the Salto Waterfall (Salto do Rio Chapéu), the fee fishing ponds of Line (Rio Bravo) and Zato (Rio Otília), and the Nossa Senhora de Lourdes Grotto.
