Tubarão

In Tubarão, the attractions for tourists range from the relaxing hot spring resorts to cultural tours through the center of the city. There are various museums, culture houses, and even a steam locomotive that runs through the old stations and settlements of the region. The point of departure is the Railroad Museum, one of the touristic highlights of Tubarão. The city also has good dining and nightlife options. And for whose who enjoy rappelling and climbing, there are two spots for the practice of these sports only 4 km from the Center. In the rural area, you can watch the routive of life on the properties open to visitation and buy homemade products. The main event of Tubarão are the Industry, Commerce, and Service Fair, Produsul, and the Tropeira Horseback Ride – a weeklong tour through various towns of the south and the Santa Catarina mountain range.

Steam locomotive tour
In the summer, the route passes through Jaguaruna and Imbituba. In winter, it visits Urussanga and Sideópolis. In both cases, the locomotive takes the visitor through verdant rice fields, old stations, and small settlements, on tours that always take place on the last Sunday of the month. Railroad Museum

Willy Zumblick Museum
Holds a significant part of the extensive work of Tubarão painter Willy Zumblick (1913-2008), who took his greatest inspiration from Santa Catarina. It is installed in the Municipal Culture Center (CMC), where you can also find the Olavo Bilac Municipal Library, temporary exhibit gallers, studios, and video rooms. Monday to Friday, 7AM to 1PM.

Walter Zumblick Museum
Preserves stuffed specimens of local fauna and pre-Columbian objects found in shellmounds of the region. Don’t miss the chance to contemplate the suspension bridge over the Tubarão River, in front of the museum. Monday to Friday, 8AM to 7PM.

Anita Garibaldi Memorial
A monument donated by the Italian government marks the location where Ana Maria de Jesus Ribeiro, Anita Garibaldi, was born in 1821. Madre Main Road, Morrinhos, 4 km from the Center.

Humberto Rohden City House
Dated from 1897, the neoclassical mansion was once the seat of the city government and other public organizations. Today it has a point of sale of handicrafts and receives exhibitions, community courses, and other cultural activities. At Christmas, the location is transformed into Santa Claus’ House, one of the attractions of the Cultural Mix of Christmas, in the Center.

Capivari de Baixo


The town is part of the touristic circuit of the steam locomotive that leaves from Tubarão. The Nossa Senhora da Saúde Grotto (1959) is one of its main attractions. The Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex, the largest coal-powered plant in Latin America, is the big driver of Capivari de Baixo, contributing to the development of the whole southern Santa Catarina region.
