Religious Tourism

In Santa Catarina, faith also motivates tourism. Nova Trento, the city of Madre Paulina (the first Brazilian saint), is the second most visited religious destination in the country. In Brusque, in the Valley of Miracles (Vale dos Milagres), the Azambuja Sanctuary holds Brazil’s largest collection of popular religious art. Statewide, there are 22 sanctuaries and one hundred destinations for religious pilgrimage. The attractions range from century old churches to Catholic grottos, mosques and temples of different religions, as well as festivals, pilgrimages, processions and celebrations of faith that inspire Santa Catarina’s faithful followers, as well as those from all over Brazil and throughout world.
